Byomkesh Gowtro’ is strikes the right chord when it comes to portraying deep lying truth of the sins of mankind. Be it the elements of jealousy, greed or lust - they navigate all the characters with ease and makes the film engaging for the most part. It’s also one of those rare occasions where antagonist Satyakam somehow overshadows the quintessential Satyanweshi Byomkesh Bakshi (Abir Chatterjee).

Portraying a twisted negative character of Satyakam with such perfection makes Arjun Chakraborty stand out among all. Arindam Sil once again proves Arjun has grown into a polished actor.
It’s quite clear the director has invested a lot while creating the character Satyakam. Arjun leaves the audience in awe as the spoilt brat from an affluent family. His character is literally conceited, brash and also a flirt but often, in his straight forward dialogue “I was born to destroy families”, he subtly points out a certain helplessness deep inside. Arjun also succeeds to show the complexity of his character, being true to his words while paying fees or being generous towards those whom he loves.
This is the first time the ‘Gaaner Opare’ actor is a part of the Byomkesh franchise and in his very first film with it, Arjun has slipped into a purely negative character. So, how did he prepare for the role? Did he participate in any workshops? Speaking about his character, Arjun says Arindam Sil guided him a lot. “I didn’t participate in any workshop. I had a few sessions with Arindam da. A large portion of the film is centered on my character Satyakam. I was completely relying on the script and Arindam da’s guidance. If there was any question I used to reach out to him to clear all my doubts. I didn’t try to improvise as I haven’t gone through the Byomkesh novels. I just surrendered myself to the director’s vision and it has done the trick,” says the actor who also played a key role in Birsa Dasgupta’s recently released ‘Crisscross’.
‘Byomkesh Gowtro’ is no doubt a land mark in Arjun Chakraborty’s character. His stout appearance and the unique characterization in a never-before-seen look, his conflicts with women make the murder mystery more interesting. The talented actor is showered with compliments from viewers and critics alike. It would be great to see the actor in more challenging roles in future.
