After years of doing playback in films, the National Award-winning singer
Monali Thakur is all set to release her first Bengali single on Saturday. This is also her first Bangla pujor gaan. Monali has not only recorded the song, but has also shot for a peppy video before flying off to Switzerland.
“Ei gaanta shunlei naachte ichchhe korbe,” said an excited Monali from Switzerland.
“It was a sudden decision. We recorded the song and shot the video in a day’s time,” she added. While the song, Dugga Elo, is composed by Guddu, it is penned by Indranil Das.
“It is my way of celebrating
Durga Puja this year. This foot-tapping number is packed with Bangaliana and captures the Puja flavour just right. Recording the song was so much fun,” said Monali, whose father Shakti Thakur was also a noted playback singer in Bengal. As a child, she appeared in a Bengali television show, Aalokito ek Indu, in which she played the lead role of Indubala.
Talking about her endeavour to bring independent music to the fore, the singer added, “There was a time when Bangla adhunik gaan used to be very popular. Over the years, our independent music scene faltered a bit. This is my way of helping indie music resurface again.”
