LIGHTS, CAMERA AND A LOT OF ACTION ON A FROZEN LAKE Shah Rukh Khan,
Deepika Padukone and John Abraham-starrer Pathaan (2023) was shot at the frozen Lake Baikal in Siberia. Many of the film’s action sequences, including a high-speed bike chase between SRK and John, along with Deepika skating, were filmed on the lake. The sequence, complete with guns and explosions taking place in the background, made for thrilling visuals. It’s no surprise that the film’s success has put the location high on Bollywood fans’ must-visit list.
TURNING UP THE HEAT IN ICELANDShah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s passionate love song Gerua from Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale (2015) was shot in Iceland. Remember the sizzling on-screen pair shooting at stunning locations, including Reynisfjara Beach, known for its black sand, Vestrahorn Mountain and Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon, surrounded by floating icebergs? They even filmed atop an abandoned plane wreck at Sólheimasandur.
Kajol braved the cold in chiffon saris, while Shah Rukh turned on his charm with stylish jackets.
BOLLYWOOD IN CORSICARanbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s Matargashti (Tamasha, 2015) on the streets of Corsica, France, immediately had fans booking a trip to the Mediterranean island. The song was shot in Bastia, in and around quaint little French cafes, restaurants, and the colourful, vibrant streets, with local artistes joining the actors to put up a show. The location, which is the most mountainous island in the Mediterranean, should be a part of your travel list.
ADDING COLOUR TO THE GRAND CANYON Varun Dhawan,
Shraddha Kapoor and Lauren Gottlieb took romance to new heights by shaking a leg at the Grand Canyon, US, for ABCD2 (2015). The romantic track, If You Hold My Hand, had the actors dressed in striking golden and fuschia pink outfits. The Grand Canyon is known for its overwhelming size (446 km long and 29 km wide) and its intricate, colourful landscape. A shot of colourful kites against the backdrop made for a visually appealing.
MAGIC OF THE NORTH EAST Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon’s horror-comedy Bhediya (2022) was filmed entirely in Arunachal Pradesh. The locations included the serene Ziro (Lower Subansiri), Sagalee and parts of Pakke-Kessang district. The place served as the perfect premise since the movie weaved folktales from Arunachal into it’s script. Director Amar Kaushik says, “I grew up in Arunanchal where my father was a forest ranger. The story of Bhediya required it to be shot in and around the jungle and the story revolved around a legend from Arunanchal, so it was the perfect choice.” The destination is also known for the annual Ziro Music Festival.
