Interior designs that look bad now

Interior design has the power to really bring a place together and make it ‘home’. A space for rest, relaxation, and love. And as these trends come and go, just like many other things in life, if you hold on too long, it might become a blunder for your home.

All white or gray interiors

One of the biggest interior design blunders you can do today is to get all-white or all-gray paint in your home, including the furniture, thinking it will look modern and minimal. NO! It will look like a hospital ward, dull and tasteless.

Maximalist decor

The extreme of minimal white is maximalist decor with bold prints, colours, layers, expensive-looking decor items, and the likes. But this too has gone out of trend, and maintaining a balance is important.

Fake brick walls

Fake brick walls were considered to be urban, modern, and a fresh breath of air in textures and styles. But overtime, with the overuse of brick patterns, they now just look forced and inauthentic.

Limewash on walls

Another style that was all in rage about 3-5 years ago was the Limewash trend. It gave a rustic, vintage feel, and people wanted to get limewash on their accent walls across rooms. But now, limewashes have just become old and overdone.

False ceilings and lighting

Another interior design era was of false ceilings and flashy lights from inside those ceilings. Up until a few years ago, they might have made a home look modern and luxurious, but now they are just overused and outdated.

Half-painted walls

There was a Pinterest era when half-painted walls were a trend. The upper half would be a light colour, suppose white, pink, or light blue, and the lower half would be green, or black, or magenta, or the likes. But now, these just look childish and unfinished.

Cluttered wallpapers

Wallpapers gave people some fresh air up until a few years ago. They were new, would stick easily, could be peeled off, and the likes. But now, these wallpaper designs have become cluttered, have way too many lines and designs, and the themes have become outdated.

Glass walls and furniture

At one point, glass furniture and decor was all the rage. They looked new, modern, and elegant, and from walls to coffee tables, glass was everywhere. But now, people realise that they are just high-maintenance, not very safe, and of course, old.

Layered rugs

Rugs are a great option for any home. Small rooms, large rooms, rooms with minimal furniture, all of those can use rugs. But when people start layering rugs, a big rug below, with multiple small ones over the top, that is where things become inelegant.

L-shaped sofas and chairs

L-shaped sofas were once thought of as the epitome of practicality and modern looks. But overtime, people realised that they are very dysfunctional, with one side always being unoccupied, and they take up a ton of space.
