His gestures have also attracted penalties and fines from officials, with the player even forced to sit out the game against Gujarat Titans, owing to the verbal scuffle between him and Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Abhishek Sharma.

Rathi has also been penalized for his gestures, and has been made to pay a whopping ₹9.37 lakhs in fines, nearly one-third of the price for which he was procured by LSG.

In a video posted on LSG's official X handle, the bowler finally reveals why he continues to do the same.
"Whenever there is a tournament, I carry a notebook and write down all the names."
The player is most likely referring to the fact that he keeps tabs on players and strikes off their name from the 'notebook' once their wicket is claimed. This means that the player's celebration is not just performative, but also as a personal checklist of achievements.
