Gautam Gambhir breaks silence on 'rift' with Rohit Sharma
Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir has firmly shut down speculation about a rift with captain Rohit Sharma, calling such rumours baseless and driven by social media narratives.
Speaking at the ABP India At 2047 Summit, Gambhir addressed the issue head-on, making it clear that the relationship between him and Rohit is built on mutual respect and professionalism.

“Yeh sirf kuch logon ne jo YouTube channel chala rahe hain, ya jo ‘experts’ bane baithe hain TRP ke liye bola hai,” Gambhir said. “We won the Champions Trophy just two months ago—imagine if we hadn’t. What kind of questions would you be asking me then?”
He expressed disbelief that, despite a major ICC trophy win under his and Rohit’s leadership, rumours of a rift continue to be circulated.

“Just two months ago, a coach and captain won the Champions Trophy together, and now you're asking about my relation with Rohit. I respect him as a human being and a cricketer. What he has done for India is incredible. I’ve had a lot of time for someone like him since the day he came into the team, and that won’t change,” he added.
Gambhir also addressed speculation about his working relationship with senior players, including Virat Kohli. On the widely discussed camaraderie between the two, he said with a smile, “It’s just two Delhi boys having fun. If that’s a problem, I’ll tell the BCCI to stop posting about it.”
Gambhir’s comments reaffirm the strong working dynamic between India’s coach and captain, silencing doubts and refocusing attention on the team’s achievements and future ambitions.
