Italian Open 2025: Points and payouts for Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and other top contenders

Carlos Alcaraz claimed his first Italian Open title, but the real story lies in the points and prize money on the line. While Alcaraz basked in victory, Sinner’s comeback from a doping ban added intrigue to the race for rankings and earnings. Let’s take a closer look at the points they earned and what they took home.

Carlos Alcaraz’s dazzling display in the Italian Open final against Jannik Sinner not only earned the Spaniard his maiden trophy at Foro Italico but also a significant boost in both ATP points and prize money. In a match that started with a tense first set, which Alcaraz won 7-6 (7-5), the world No. 2 soon found his rhythm and blew past Sinner in the second set, claiming a 6-1 victory to secure the title. The win marked Alcaraz’s seventh ATP Masters 1000 title and his 19th ATP Tour singles trophy, with four Grand Slam titles to his name.Reflecting on his victory, Alcaraz said, “I’m just really happy to get my first Rome [title], hopefully it’s not going to be the last one. I’m proud of myself, with the way I approached the match mentally. Tactically, I think I played pretty well from the first point until the last one.”However, Alcaraz’s victory wasn’t just about the glory of lifting the trophy. The financial and ranking rewards were substantial, with both the winner and the runner-up walking away with impressive payouts and significant points.

ATP points and ranking impact

As is customary at ATP Masters 1000 events, the winner collects 1,000 ranking points.
Given that Alcaraz didn’t compete at the 2024 Italian Open due to injury, he adds the full 1,000 points to his tally, bringing his career total to 8,850 ATP ranking points. For Jannik Sinner, who was competing for the first time since serving a three-month doping ban, the financial and points gain was similarly notable. As Sinner didn’t compete in Rome last year, he also added 650 ATP points to his rankings, boosting his tally to 10,380 points and solidifying his position as the world No. 1.The semi-finalists weren’t left out of the rewards either. Both Lorenzo Musetti and Tommy Paul took home 310 points. While Musetti was defending 90 points from a 2024 ATP Challenger event, Paul earned zero points, as he was eliminated at the same stage the previous year. Then, there were the quarter-finalists: Casper Ruud, Hubert Hurkacz, Jack Draper, and Alexander Zverev, each pocketing 200 ATP points. However, it was Zverev who bore the brunt of the most significant points loss. The German, who was the defending Italian Open champion, lost 800 points, resulting in a sharp drop in his ranking. Not to be forgotten, Nicolas Jarry, the 2024 runner-up, suffered a major setback after being eliminated in the second round this year, losing 620 points and plummeting 97 spots in the ATP rankings, settling at No. 150.

Prize money breakdown

As impressive as the points may be, let’s talk about the cash. Carlos Alcaraz’s victory earned him €985,030 (roughly $1.1 million), which boosts his career earnings to $41 million. His 2025 earnings alone now exceed $4 million, highlighting his meteoric rise on the ATP Tour.Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner took home €523,870 ($597,548), bringing his career earnings to $40 million. At just 22, Sinner has quickly climbed the financial ladder in tennis, positioning himself within the top 10 highest-earning players of all time. The semi-finalists weren’t left behind either. Both Lorenzo Musetti and Tommy Paul walked away with €291,040 ($331,972), a solid payday for their efforts in Rome. For the quarter-finalists, Casper Ruud, Hubert Hurkacz, Jack Draper, and Alexander Zverev, the financial reward was €165,670 ($188,970) each. It’s a far cry from the big payouts, but still a healthy sum for the talented quartet.

A few more noteworthy earners

Jesper de Jong, a lucky loser who made a run to the third round, earned €52,925 ($60,368) along with 50 ranking points, adding another milestone to his career earnings, which now stand at $1,094,830.Vilius Gaubas, a 20-year-old qualifier, also reached the third round, marking his biggest payday to date with €52,925 ($60,368), bringing his total earnings to $284,853.As for the absentees, Novak Djokovic, who has been a six-time Rome champion, was notably absent this year. His absence still had consequences, with the Serbian losing 50 points from his 2024 runner-up finish.
