Amidst a tough time, the Colorado Rockies have fired their manager, Bud Black, after leading the team since 2017. The team made the announcement on Sunday, just hours after Rockies’ General Manager Bill Schmidt offered support for Black.

Bud Black is 67. He will be replaced for the rest of the season by third-base coach Warren Schaeffer. The Rockies also made more changes to their coaching staff.
They have also fired bench coach Mike Redmond, while they have named hitting coach Clint Hurdle as the new interim bench coach. Hurdle is familiar with the role, having managed the Rockies from 2002 to 2009.

What the Colorado Rockies said in their public statement

As per the Colorado Rockies’ X account, a statement was shared regarding the current situation. The statement read:
“The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have relieved Bud Black of his duties as manager and Mike Redmond of his duties as bench coach. Current Third Base Coach Warren Schaeffer has been named the interim manager through the end of the 2025 season and current Hitting Coach Clint Hurdle has been named the interim bench coach.“As per a statement released by Dick Monfort, Owner, Chairman & CEO of Colorado Rockies, it stated:
"Our play so far this season, especially coming off the last two seasons, has been unacceptable. Our fans deserve better, and we are capable of better. While we all share responsibility in how this season has played out, these changes are necessary. We will use the remainder of 2025 to improve where we can on the field and to evaluate all areas of our operation so we can properly turn the page into the next chapter of Rockies Baseball."Further, Monfort said, in his statement:"I want to thank Bud Black and Mike Redmond for their contributions to the organization across their eight years here.
