The New York Yankees’ legend Brett Gardner’s 14-year-old, Miller Gardner, could have possibly died due to carbon monoxide poisoning, as per the Costa Rican authorities. Miller’s body was handed over to the Gardner family last week, while the officials had said the investigation into the matter is underway.
Officials continue their investigation into Miller Gardner’s death case
Miller Gardner died on March 21, while his family was vacationing in Costa Rica. Miller died following a mysterious bout of illness that affected many family members.
As per the New York Post, the earlier reports had suggested that Miller likely died by asphyxiation in his sleep due to food poisoning. The officials, however, ruled that theory out.
The officials conducted a thorough investigation into the matter, which has revealed that there were “high levels of carbon monoxide contamination” detected in the family’s hotel room, as per Randall Zuniga, general director of Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigative Agency.
Zuniga, at a virtual press conference said in Spanish:
“It's also important to note that next to [the family’s] room there is a specialized machine room, from which it is believed some form of contamination may have reached the guest rooms, potentially causing the incident.”
While Zuniga explained the investigation is still underway and officials are still waiting for the final toxicology results, he further said:
“Nonetheless, the initial investigative findings indicate that the incident was due to this contamination, with levels as high as 600 parts per million detected — when the appropriate level in this case should be zero.”
