Chicago Sky faces a major loss as Courtney Vandersloot suffers a potential season-ending torn ACL

The Chicago Sky did not have a solid start to their pre-season run and now it faces another major blow as guard Courtney Vandersloot suffers a tear on her right ACL. The player now has to miss the rest of the season owing to the severity of the issue. Vandersloot led the team to its first WNBA championship victory in the year 2021, which showcases her importance on the court as part of the team.

Not just the Chicago Sky, but Courtney Vandersloot has been instrumental in several teams winning their first-ever championship trophy. Post 2022 season, the player became a free agent and went on to join the New York Liberty. The team won the WNBA championship in 2024 over the Minnesota Lynx. In 2025, the player returned to the Sky team.However, Vandersloot's on-court appearance has been unfortunately cut short due to a torn right anterior cruciate ligament. The tear came during the first half of the Sky’s game against the Indiana Fever. As Vandersloot rushed towards the basket, the player collapsed midway, holding her right knee. She was immediately rushed to the locker room and later on, after proper examination by the medical officers, the player was advised to have surgery as well as to stay away from the court for the rest of the 2025 season.
The Fever won the match with the final score being 79-52. Vandersloot’s news came as a huge blow to the Sky team, as they are one strong player short for the upcoming matches. The team just bounced back with two back-to-back wins after going through a rough start to the preseason. Chicago Sky through their social media account on X announced the news, “Courtney Vandersloot underwent an MRI yesterday that revealed a right torn anterior crucial ligament (ACL), an injury she sustained in the June 7th game against Indiana. Vandersloot will miss the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season and undergo surgery to repair the injury. All of Skytown is behind you Sloot!”

The Sky team is yet to announce the replacement for their upcoming matches.
