With his appearance against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night in Texas, LeBron recorded his 1,561st regular season game, securing second place all-time and pushing Abdul-Jabbar to third. Only Robert Parish, who played in 1,611 games, remains ahead of him.
LeBron James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in all-time games played list
Although the highly anticipated Los Angeles Lakers vs Dallas Mavericks game was inherently focused on Luka Doncic on his return to the American Airlines Center, LeBron James made sure to shine as well. James has been in the league since 2003, competing night after night for over two decades and still performing at an elite level, and this moment further secured his place in basketball history. His rise to second on this list, alongside several astonishing records, defines the legacy-enriched career of the Lakers veteran.
James also delivered a standout performance for the Lakers' 112-97 win against the Mavericks. He scored 27 points in 36 minutes on an efficient 55% shooting night. Though he missed all four of his attempts from beyond the arc, LeBron compensated with his aggression at the rim and went 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Beyond scoring, he contributed seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
LeBron is currently averaging 24.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game for the season, shooting over 51% from the field and 38.1% from deep.
Adding to the significance of the moment, James is also just three made three-pointers away from overtaking Reggie Miller on the NBA’s all-time list. The 40-year-old seemingly has a few more years in his sleeves, and he might surpass Miller in the upcoming season.
Still, it was Luka Doncic’s night. He put on a masterclass performance in this game, dominating on both ends of the floor. In 38 minutes of play, he dropped a staggering 45 points, shooting an efficient 57.1% from the field and an impressive 70% from beyond the arc (7-of-10). Despite the high offensive load, Dončić still managed to contribute across the board with 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals, showcasing his all-around impact.
