MANGALORE: There has been an overwhelming response to the report in The Times of India dated August 5, 2001, which highlighted the plight of 18-year-old girl harinakshi, who lost both her hands in an accident at a saw mill here. Help has been pouring in, and till date she has received a sum of Rs 12,000.

MANGALORE: It looks like life always accosts her with a double-edged sword. First, if poverty was not enough, harinakshi (18) lost her parents at a tender age and now, a quirk of fate has rendered her disabled.

The victim is Ajith (8) who died on Thursday. He is brother of harinakshi (10), who had succumbed to malaria on Tuesday.

A 16-year-boy detained for an attempt to murder case was sexually assaulted between May 30 and June 26 by a 34-year-old inmate of the Regional Mental Hospital (RMH), where the teen was undergoing treatment.
