When Sridevi dreamt of Janhvi Kapoor’s wedding, not stardom: Boney Kapoor recalls late wife’s wishes

When attending weddings together, late actress Sridevi often found herself imagining her elder daughter Janhvi Kapoor’s future wedding rather than picturing her in front of the camera.
A mother’s wish, not a screen debut
In a heartfelt throwback shared during an interview with News18 Showsha, producer Boney Kapoor reminisced about how Sridevi never wanted either of their daughters to enter the film industry. “She never wanted any of the daughters to become actors,” Boney shared, adding that Sridevi would say, “She was imagining ke inki shaadi karenge.”
From Shaadi Dreams to 'Dhadak' Debut
Boney revealed how Sridevi would often discuss Janhvi's future wedding during family functions and ceremonies. “Jab bhi hum kisi ki shaadi pe jaate the, sochte the ke hum Janhvi ki shaadi bhi aise karenge. Koi aisa hi ladka mil jaaye.” She always hoped Janhvi and Khushi would find good partners, not scripts. It was a surprise, then, when Janhvi expressed her interest in acting. Boney recalls, “Kabhi khayaal nahi aaya ke heroine banayenge… Suddenly, ek din aa ke maa ko bolti, ‘Mere ko bhi acting karni hai.’” That decision eventually led to Janhvi’s debut in Dhadak, shortly after Sridevi’s untimely death in February 2018.
Janhvi’s journey continues.

Since then, Janhvi Kapoor has continued to build a name for herself in the industry. Currently in a relationship with Shikhar Pahariya, Janhvi is also busy with an impressive lineup of films. She will be seen alongside Varun Dhawan in 'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari' (September 2025) and Sidharth Malhotra in 'Param Sundari (July 2025) and will headline the Telugu film Peddi opposite Ram Charan, scheduled for 2026.
On the other hand, Janhvi made her Telugu debut with the Jr. NTR starrer action drama movie ‘Devara,’ which unfortunately didn’t impress the audiences amid the hype.
