‘We’re going to keep fighting’ — Cavaliers GM Koby Altman on running it back with young core

Despite 64 victories in the regular season and a first-round sweep, Cleveland Cavaliers couldn’t hold on and fell to the Indiana Pacers in the semifinals. But Koby Altman, as President of Basketball Operations, believes there is still a real chance for the team to succeed. At a media appearance not long ago, he praised the makeup of the Cavaliers, saying they could hope for another championship soon.Last season, the Cleveland Cavaliers excelled, with a 64–18 record and a strong game in the playoffs’ first round. It was a sad ending for the team after the Indiana Pacers defeated them in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Koby Altman, the President of Basketball Operations, remains positive about the future.Altman pointed out that Mitchell, Garland, Mobley and Allen are key to how the squad will perform moving forward. The young talent and skill on this team didn’t go unnoticed by him, "I love our foundation. I love our core. Our starting lineup, the average age is 26.8. We have two All-Stars that are 25 (Garland) and 23 (Mobley), respectively".When looking back on the season, Altman noticed the team had a solid regular season, but struggled with playoff matches due to various injuries. He stressed the importance of using regular-season wins to get through the playoffs, "It can't just be 82 games. We have to figure out this next 16, we have to figure out how to get over the hump" he said.When asked about the roster, Altman said he likes to maintain continuity rather than make big changes. He stated, "If we were going to be reactionary, it would have been last year... I think the same thing now as you lean in even more to what we’re building" . However, he did not rule out additions that could strengthen the team, even if it means entering luxury-tax territory.Looking ahead, Altman expressed optimism about the team's trajectory under head coach Kenny Atkinson and the internal belief among players. He concluded, "We’re not going anywhere.
