Now that Tom Brady has officially retired from the game, his impact continues to be felt beyond the gridiron. He has expanded his career into broadcasting as a color commentator for Fox Sports, become a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, and even started a YouTube channel where he shares his football insights with the world. In one of his most recent videos, Brady turned his attention to something a little more fundamental—teaching people how to throw a football.
How to Throw a Football by Tom Brady

While many fans would love to receive football tips from one of the greatest quarterbacks in history, Brady’s tutorial wasn’t just aimed at NFL rookies. He made it clear that his knowledge could benefit anyone looking to improve their throwing technique, whether they were a beginner or someone simply looking to learn the "art of slinging a pigskin."
According to Brady, the secret to a perfect throw isn’t about strength or a powerful arm; it’s about technique and energy transfer. In his tutorial, he emphasized the importance of generating power from the ground up. The power must flow through your body seamlessly, from your legs all the way to your fingertips, in order to make a perfect throw.
“The throwing will always start with your legs,” Brady explained. “Getting power from the ground up through your ankles, through your knees, through your hips, through your shoulders, into your right arm. Once you get the energy traveling up from the ground, you don’t want any of that energy to go anywhere except through the fingertips in the ball and through the release point.”
This principle of energy transfer has been at the core of Brady’s success, and now, he’s passing it on to a wider audience. For someone who’s been a part of the NFL for more than two decades, such insights provide a unique perspective on how much of a quarterback's success relies on proper technique rather than just raw physical talent.
As a player, Brady was known for his precise and strategic play, often taking a methodical approach to the game. As a broadcaster and analyst, he can now evaluate the game from a different angle, providing more in-depth commentary and analysis. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Brady was asked about the best deep-ball throwers in NFL history.
Brady’s answer was intriguing, mixing past legends and current stars. He highlighted quarterbacks who possessed exceptional arm talent, whether in the prime of their careers or in the past. Among the players he considered the best deep-ball passers were legends like Dan Marino and Brett Favre, alongside modern-day stars such as Aaron Rodgers and Matt Stafford.
“All-time arm talent: Dan Marino, Aaron Rodgers… I think that most people would certainly say those two… I’d say Brett Favre. I might put Matt Stafford up there. I’m missing a lot of people. I think of Jeff George, Randall Cunningham, Michael Vick, Josh Allen. Those guys are a step above people who have great arms,” Brady said.
However, some might find it surprising that Brady didn’t include quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, John Elway, or Terry Bradshaw in this list, all of whom were known for their powerful arms. It’s clear that Brady's evaluation was based not just on arm strength but on a broader understanding of how a quarterback’s throwing ability affects their overall game.
Tom Brady’s legacy extends far beyond his seven Super Bowl rings. As he transitions from player to broadcaster, he continues to share valuable football insights with fans and aspiring players alike. Whether discussing the fundamentals of throwing a football or evaluating the best deep-ball quarterbacks, Brady’s knowledge of the game is a gift that keeps on giving. His ability to teach, analyze, and educate on the intricacies of the game further cements his status not only as a player but as an invaluable contributor to the football community.
