Nintendo has officially launched the Nintendo Switch 2, marking a major upgrade to its popular hybrid gaming console. Launched globally, the new gaming console boasts enhanced graphics, improved controllers, and expanded compatibility with existing Switch games. The successor to the immensely popular original Switch promises significant upgrades in performance, features, and an expanded gaming experience. With Nintendo Switch 2 the company has maintained its signature hybrid design, allowing seamless transition between handheld, tabletop, and TV modes. The gaming console is powered by Nvidia Tegra T239 processor and features a 7.9-inch LCD screen offering 1080p resolution. It packs 256GB internal storage and sport reimagined Joy-Con 2 controllers.
Nintendo Switch 2: Price and availability
The Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at Rs 54,999 in India for the standard edition. Some retailers, like Flipkart, have listed it at Rs 69,990, though discounts may apply. Pre-booking is available for Rs 2,999, with the remaining amount collected before delivery.
Nintendo Switch 2 features
As for specs, Nintendo Switch 2 features a 7.9-inch display while still measuring 13.99mm in thickness, just like the original Switch. Its LCD panel delivers 1080p resolution, supports HDR, and can achieve up to a 120fps refresh rate with variable refresh rate.
The Joy-Con controllers are larger now and, as suggested, can operate similarly to a mouse—though a note clarifies that mouse mode only works with compatible games. They remain magnetically attached to the Switch 2.
Nintendo has explained the purpose of the mysterious "C" button on the right Joy-Con below the home button, revealing that it powers a new feature called GameChat. Previously seen in early videos and leaks, this square, "C"-marked button has now been officially explained.
The company has introduced the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, a dedicated accessory designed to sit next to your TV and enable video chats through GameChat using the new “C” button, with functionality that allows your face to overlay the game or appear as a standalone video feed.
Nintendo Switch 2 will come with a GameShare feature that will allow one game owner to locally share a game with up to three other consoles—both Switch 2 and original models—while supporting online play and game chat. It will be available for select games, with titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Captain Toad Treasure Tracker among the first examples.
The company is even releasing a GameCube controller, which it says will be available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers with the Switch 2 console.
