Phil Robertson, the popular patriarch of the Duck Dynasty clan has died at age 79. The reality television personality died months after his family made it public that he had been fighting Alzheimer's disease.The news was confirmed on Sunday, May 25, by his daughter-in-law Korie Robertson — wife of Willie Robertson — on Facebook in a tender Facebook posting. "We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord," Korie wrote. "Thanks for the love and prayers of so many whose lives have been touched by his life saved by grace, his faith unwavering, and by his desire to share with everyone who would hear the Good News of Jesus."She went on to say that although the family will have a private service at the moment, they intend to announce details of a public celebration of Phil's life in the next few days.Phil's health issues came to light on December 6 during an episode of the Unashamed with the Robertson Family podcast, when his son Jase Robertson confirmed that Phil had been diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer's. "It's affecting every part of his body," Jase then explained.
"He's just not doing well. He's really struggling.Famous for his unwavering Christian beliefs, outdoorsman way of life, and signature beard, Phil Robertson became a household name through the A&E reality show Duck Dynasty, which entertained audiences for 11 seasons from 2012 to 2017. The series followed the Robertson family as they operated their Louisiana-based duck call company, Duck Commander.Raised and born in Louisiana, Phil started Duck Commander in 1972, crafting a now-patented duck call that turned into a business dynasty. Far before the cameras rolled, Phil was steeped in hunting tradition, Christian faith, and family principles. His wife, Kay, was 17 years old when she married Phil after finding out she was pregnant with their first child.
Phil is survived by his wife, Kay; sons Jase, Willie, and Jep; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.A pioneer of religious reality TV and a voice for conservatives, Phil Robertson's legacy continues to be told through the family he created, the company he started, and the millions who watched as his distinctly American tale unfolded.
