Ahmedabad: In a major relief for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students, the Gujarat govt has announced that post-matric scholarships will be extended to both govt and management quota admissions in technical courses for the academic year 2024–25.
The move reverses the state's 2023 decision to restrict scholarships only to govt quota students—an action that had sparked protests from student groups and self-financed colleges. Many students had enrolled under the management quota expecting financial aid, only to find themselves unsupported due to the policy shift.
The delay had forced some students to withdraw admissions due to financial constraints, while some colleges either waived fees or cancelled admissions altogether.
Welcoming the revised decision, institutions urged the govt to ensure timely policy announcements in the future to avoid disruption in admissions and student retention.
