Rajgarh horror: Elderly woman strangled, ear snatched along with gold earrings in suspected robbery
BHOPAL: A 75-year-old woman was found strangled to death inside her home in the Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh. The killers also ripped off one of her ears along with the jewelry.
The victim, Savitri Bai Rathore has been identified to be the grandmother of a civil judge posted in Jaora, who was living in Sarangpur area alone at the time of the incident.
The murder is believed to have occurred around Friday early morning, but the body was found only on Saturday as neighbours grew suspicious when they didn’t see or hear from the elderly woman.
Police rushed to the scene with the police force. Forensic teams, fingerprint experts, and a dog squad were called in to aid the investigation.
Initial findings suggest the woman was targeted by thieves who broke in, possibly at night, and killed her when she resisted. Evidence also indicates that the murder may have occurred more than 24 hours before she was found dead.
Police found that one of her ears was severed, likely during the theft of her earrings. Family members suspect that more gold and silver jewelry may have been looted from the house.
Savitri Bai lived separately from her three sons. Her elder son, Bhavani Shankar Rathore, was the first to find the body.
The milkman told police that when she didn’t come out like usual, he went inside around 6:45 AM and found her lifeless on the bed.
Locals say the area has been grappling with rampant drug abuse, and suspect the involvement of addicts.
Citing that the way the earrings were snatched—along with part of the ear—suggests brutality and urgency of the suspects. The house was found disturbed, and investigations indicate it wasn't a lone act.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, and police are analyzing CCTV footage, neighborhood intel, and forensic clues to track down the culprits.
