Dehradun: At least two people were killed and four members of a Noida-based family were injured in three separate road accidents in Uttarkashi and Tehri Garhwal districts on Sunday.According to the state disaster response force (SDRF), the first accident occurred in Barkot area of Uttarkashi, where 26-year-old Santosh Rana, a resident, died after his multi-utility vehicle (MUV) plunged into a 150-m-deep gorge along Yamunotri road around 9:30 am."A team from the SDRF's Barkot base rushed to the spot and, after several hours of effort, retrieved Rana's body from the gorge. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and died on the spot," said SI Vinit Vaibhav of SDRF. The body was sent to a nearby hospital for post-mortem examination.In another incident, the driver of a dumping truck died when the vehicle fell into a 50-m-deep gorge near Thatyudh in Tehri Garhwal late Saturday night. The accident came to light on Sunday morning when passersby spotted the wrecked truck. The dead was identified as Ritesh, 29, a resident of Jaunsar area in Dehradun. The third accident took place on Rishikesh-Badrinath highway in Tehri Garhwal, where four members of a family, including two children, were injured when their car overturned on the road.
According to police, Anubhav Prasad Dimri, a resident of Noida, was driving with his wife and two children towards Srinagar on Sunday morning when he reportedly dozed off at the wheel. In a sudden reaction, he pulled the handbrake, causing the vehicle to flip over. Passersby and police rescued them from the overturned car. All four sustained minor injuries and are safe, police said.
