Dehradun: The inaugural edition of the Surya Devbhoomi Challenge, an adventure event organised by the Indian Army in collaboration with the Uttarakhand govt concluded on Saturday at Sonprayag in Rudraprayag district.
The three-day event, held from April 18-20, saw participants from across the country test their physical strength and endurance across some of the state's most difficult and inaccessible terrains. The event featured activities like mountain biking, trail running, and track running, designed to push both physical limits and mental resilience.
Defence PRO (Dehradun) Lt Col Manish Shrivastava, said, "The Surya Devbhoomi Challenge was organised with the support of local authorities and tourism bodies. Participants displayed their indomitable courage and stamina through the event. A total of 141 participants — 134 men and seven women — took part in this challenge across various age groups."
In the men's under-35 category, Kamlesh Rawat secured first position, while Satpal won in the 34–45 age group. In the 45 and above segment, Kalam Singh Bisht won first place. Among women, Preeti secured first place in the under-35 category, and Vandana Singh led in the 45 and above segment.
General officer commanding-in-chief, Central Command, Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, awarded the winners during the closing ceremony on Sunday.
