Ludhiana: Monsoon is on the doorstep, but the condition of Tajpur Road dairy complex is getting worse by the day.
Faced with persistent drainage problems, residents Sunday blamed MC for their plight. Frustrated with the situation, they said if MC officials are not going to take care of the Tajpur complex, they should be prepared to tackle an outbreak of diseases.
Locals alleged that it's been almost a month, but the water from Tanki Wali Lane on Tajpur Road is yet to be drained out. They said the road has turned into a drain. It has not only crippled movement, but also the business of more than two dozen shops there. Dirty water has surrounded the dairies, and milk is being supplied to the city from there. A temple also sits on the road, and the priest has to wade through the dirty water to perform puja there. An unbearable stench coming from the inundated road makes it difficult to even stand there.
MC, however, continues to play passing the buck.
MC's OM cell officials pinned the blame for this mess on the Sewerage Board and dairy operators. OM cell officials said the Sewerage Board built a separate channel to carry the water of the dairies to the treatment plant, but it had some defects. Besides, the dairy operators continue to dump the dung of their animals in this channel, as a result of which it gets clogged and water doesn't drain out and dirty water spills onto the road.
MC's executive engineer Parshotam Lal said, "Some dairy farmers refuse to mend their ways and continue to dump waste into Buddha Dariya. We got FIRs registered against the errant ones, but they don't seem to care." TNN
