Jamshedpur: It will take 10 days for the healthcare services to shift the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) from the old campus in Sakchi to its new building at Dimna.
On Monday, hospital authorities huddled to work out the shifting plan and decided to float the tenders for installation of a centralised oxygen supply line, operation theatre accessories and furniture among others.
"The tenders for procurement of medical and non-medical items will be floated on Tuesday and then the shifting will be done," said the deputy superintendent of the hospital, Dr Nakul Chaudhary.
He said the insufficient water facility at the new hospital, which is the main cause behind the delay in the shifting, was being looked into on a war footing.
East Singhbhum DC Ananya Mittal has been entrusted with the responsibility to hold talks with the Tata Steel management and explore sourcing water from the Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) to the in-campus hospital building at Dimna, MGMMCH sources said.
Further, the officials said except for the gynaecology ward, the routine medical services of other departments would continue as usual on the Sakchi campus.
The gynaecology ward is closed due to the crumbled structure and the patients have been referred to the Jamshedpur sadar hospital.
Earlier in the day, the probe panel headed by the ADC, Bhagirath Prasad, visited the tragedy-hit medicine block to investigate the cause of the collapse of the balcony of the multi-storied structure.
"We visited the gynaecology and medicine wards to conduct the structural audit of the building. Besides, we enquired with the hospital staff and the patients, and collected their account of the incident," said MGMMCH principal Dr Diwakar Hansda, a member of the five-member panel.
Dr Hansda said the panel would visit the hospital again on Tuesday before submitting its probe report to the DC.
Following the collapse of the balcony at the medicine building on May 3, the DC formed the panel to probe and submit a report in two days.
Three patients were killed and two others were injured in the incident which triggered widespread criticism of the hospital management.
