Chain snatchers target two elderly women

Surat: Two miscreants on a motorcycle snatched the gold chain of an old woman in Vesu area of the city on Sunday. The gold chain was worth Rs70,000 and it was second chain snatching incident within 24 hours in the city.
Padma B Modi (70), was returning way home when near a school at Someshwara Enclave, two miscreants on a motorcycle came from behind and snatched her gold chain.The woman screamed for help but the accused sped away. A case of robbery was registered at Piplod chowki. Police have obtained CCTV footage from the school and begun investigations.
In another similar incident, Usha Chauhan (55) was walking home from Daliya Sheri near Bhagal when she was targeted by a duo on a motorcycle on Saturday. The miscreants snatched her gold chain worth Rs50,000 and fled. The woman suffered minor injury when the chain was snatched from her neck by the accused.
A police officer said, “The robbers in both cases are in the age group of 30-35 and well built. They had targeted elderly women because of their slow reflexes. This is a job of a specialized gang but we will nab them soon.”
