T'puram: Kumbichalkkadavu Bridge in Amboori, the longest multi-span river bridge in Kerala, is set to be inaugurated soon, marking a major infrastructure milestone for the region. Constructed with seven spans across the river, the bridge is a significant engineering feat, built at a cost of Rs 24.71 crore with funding from Kerala infrastructure investment fund board (KIIFB).
Amboori is the southernmost high-range area in the district.
Parassala MLA C K Hareendran hailed the bridge as a transformative project that fulfils the decades-long dream of Amboori community. "This bridge not only connects the city and village, but also brings 11 isolated tribal settlements into the mainstream of life," he said.
The MLA also revealed that 16 connecting roads—both major and minor—are being constructed through Chakkapara and Kunnathmala at a cost of Rs 7.99 crore. With the bridge nearing completion, the possibility of developing ‘bridge tourism' in the area is also being explored.
To coordinate the inauguration ceremony, a 501-member general committee and a 51-member executive committee have been formed.
