Weather News Live Updates: Delhi braces for 41°Celsius heat, strong winds; IMD issues yellow alert for rain in Pune

Delhi recorded its hottest May day yet at 40.2°C on Tuesday. However, relief came in the evening with gusty winds and brief showers that helped cool down the city. The weather in Delhi fluctuated from intense heat to refreshing rain in a single day.

Mumbai experienced light pre-monsoon showers, particularly in suburbs like Mulund and Powai. As pre-monsoon activity picks up, the city is expected to see light to moderate rain throughout the week, offering respite from the scorching heat.

IMD has issued a yellow alert for Maharashtra, predicting thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in regions like Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur, and Satara. This weather is expected to continue until May 18, bringing potential disruption and increased risks.

Pune recorded significant pre-monsoon rainfall with Lavale seeing 48.5mm and Shivajinagar 18.7mm. Thunderstorms are expected to continue in the Ghats and surrounding areas, with the weather department predicting more rainfall in the coming days.

Wind discontinuity and moisture feed in Maharashtra are creating atmospheric instability, enhancing thunderstorm activity. This instability is expected to cause scattered convective rainfall, particularly across the Ghats and the Deccan plateau regions.

IMD predicts the southwest monsoon will arrive in Karnataka by the end of May, earlier than usual. The state is expected to receive 20% excess rainfall over its interior areas, enhancing the chances of abundant rain in this region during the season.
