Cops foil burglary bid at jewellery store near Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: A man attempted to enter a jewellery store on Sirumugai Four Road in Coimbatore district on Wednesday night by drilling a hole on the shop’s back wall. The man ran away on seeing police, but cops arrested him on Thursday morning.The arrested man has been identified as R Moorthy, 43, of Sirumugai. He was a goods autorickshaw driver.A team of police attached to the Sirumugai police station were on night patrol on motorcycles. The cops heard a noise coming from the back of a jewellery store and rushed to the spot. But the man managed to escape.The Sirumugai police registered a case and formed a special team to nab the man. The police collected CCTV footage from the area and arrested Moorthy on Thursday morning. He was remanded in judicial custody. Police said he was a first-time offender. Superintendent of police Dr K Karthikeyan appreciated the cops who prevented burglary.
