Times News NetworkLudhiana: A total of 43 leaders and workers from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and four from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) joined the Congress in the presence of senior party leader and election in-charge, Rana Gurjeet Singh, on Monday. Those who joined the Congress included AAP state secretaries Khadim Ali and Sher Singh Grewal as well as prominent BJP worker Gur Iqbal Singh Dhandari, among others.Congress leader Rana Gurjeet said that the number of people joining the Congress from other parties, particularly the ruling AAP, was increasing each day. "This is just the beginning. It will reach a logical conclusion by the time the campaign ends," he said. He added that Ludhiana west would mark the beginning of the Congress's return. On Sunday, AAP leader Kamaljit Singh Karwal joined the Congress with two former councillors, Gurpreet Singh Gopi Gill and Ranjit Singh Ubbi. Karwal, a prominent face of the Congress in the Atam Nagar constituency, joined the BJP in December, 2023. In 2024, he joined AAP. Karwal's induction into the Congress triggered a controversy with one-time friend Simarjit Singh Bains reacting aggressively.
Bains not only questioned Congress leaders for "not following the protocol" while inducting Karwal into the party but also sought a probe into Karwal's leaving and rejoining the party.On Friday, Satnam Singh Sunny Master, a sitting councillor of AAP from Ward 58, joined the Congress. Karan Warring, a senior BJP leader, and Paramvir Singh, nephew of late MLA Gurpreet Gogi, also joined the Congress.
