MOHALI: A 51-year-old woman has tested positive for Covid-19 in Punjab, the first case of the season in the state. The variant is yet to be detected.
The patient, a resident of Haryana's Yamunanagar, arrived in Mohali for treatment and was confirmed positive during her stay.
Deputy commissioner Komal Mittal said that although the patient will be officially counted in Yamunanagar's records, the district administration is following all necessary containment and hygiene protocols. "The area in a private hospital where the patient was admitted has been isolated and the standard Covid protocol activated," said Mittal.
The DC added, "We have instructed all hospitals to remain alert and ensure testing for every admitted patient. There is no need for panic at this stage as the situation is completely normal and under control."
Civil surgeon Sangeeta Jain assured that appropriate measures have been taken in accordance with state and central guidelines. "We have sent the patient's samples for genome sequencing to determine the variant," she said.
According to hospital authorities, the patient had been admitted with a high fever suspected to be typhoid. However, routine testing later confirmed Covid-19 infection.
