Ludhiana: With the Election Commission announcing the date for the Ludhiana West byelection, the
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has shifted into high gear, rolling out an extensive constituency-wide campaign involving senior leaders, ministers, and ground-level workers.
Party officials said each of the 17 wards in the constituency has been assigned to an AAP MLA, including legislators from Ludhiana and across Punjab. Seven state ministers are also overseeing campaign operations on the ground. In addition, nearly 200 booths have been mapped to chairpersons, vice-chairpersons of various boards, and senior party leaders, who are serving as booth in-charges.
"We've launched full-fledged campaigning across Ludhiana West," said Paramveer Singh, the AAP's Ludhiana district spokesperson and secretary. "AAP's 17 MLAs are leading efforts in their respective wards, and coordination is being managed at both the ministerial and booth levels." The party is also relying on its existing municipal network to drive voter engagement. With 10 elected councillors in the 17 wards, AAP is drawing on their local influence, along with ward in-charges who narrowly lost previous municipal elections.
A senior AAP leader said the campaign is centred on the party's governance track record in Punjab, highlighting initiatives such as free electricity, improved healthcare services, better education infrastructure, and upgraded public roads and civic facilities. The by-election in Ludhiana West was triggered by the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi earlier this year. The constituency, a key urban seat, is seen as a critical test of AAP's hold in Punjab's largest city.
